Iron Revolution novice powerlifitng  competitions have been a huge success for both the gym and newcomers to the sport of powerlifting. Our goal from day 1 at the gym has been to grow the sport at the grassroots level by providing novice level competitions for anyone and everyone who wants to step onto the platform. These events are a great way to introduce lifters to the great sport and provide a stepping stone for them into official competitions with the largest powerlifting federations in Australia and the world.

At Iron Revolution Novice Powerlifting Competitions we have experienced referees, coaches, spotters, loaders and handlers onsite at all times to ensure your experience and performance is the best it can be. It doesn’t matter whether you are lifting 30kg or 300kg the team is here to help and support in any way you need whether it’s help with some coaching and technical cues, attempt selection, wrapping your knees or simply for a hand off on the bench. We teach all our lifters in the gym and encourage our guests to make the best choices on the day with the aim to set personal records on all lifts where possible and go for the biggest overall total you can. Making smart attempts on the day and going 9 successful lifts from 9 attempts should be the aim for ALL novice and intermediate lifters.

All lifters can wear any casual clothing of their choice or a soft suits as used in regular competition. A few point to consider when choosing your clothing are how it will effect the judging. Loose fitting baggy clothing can make it difficult to judge the lifts in such as loose tracksuit pants on the deadlift and jumpers on the bench press. Because of this we recommend lifters wear either shorts or tights and a t-shirt for all lifts. Tanks tops or singlet tops can be worn for the bench press and deadlift if desired.

The following items are compulsory for all lifters;

– a T-shirt on the squat. Singlet/tank tops are NOT permitted for males or females on the squat.

– Long socks or the deadlift or suitable shin protection to prevent bleeding on the deadlift. If you forget your we have some for sale at the gym.

– Shoes or closed to footwear MUST be worn on all lifts. Socks, sandals, thongs or bare feet are not permitted.

Optional but recommend equipment for lifters is as follows;

– A leather powerlifting belt. We will allow velcro and other non powerlifting style belts for use on inspection provided they don’t pose any safety risks.

– Wrist wraps for the bench press and squats

– Knee sleeves or knee wraps for the squat. Our novice powerlifting competitions allow the use of both.

In our competitions we use the following equipment for the lifts;

  • Competition Monolift or Combo Rack with a Squat Bar
  • Competition Bench Press with Eleiko Power Bar
  • Deadlift using a Texas Deadlift bar
  • All lifts completed using Eleiko competition powerlifting plates and collars
  • All lifts performed on our 3.2m x 2.4m competition platform
